My submission for the Pot-Au-Jeu 2.0 Game Jam. I went for an ambitious game, with multiple mini games impacting each others.
I though about doing a full arcade room. It's alreay pretty ambitious to build many games in 60h, but I also had to build an FPS controller to navigate in between the arcade machines to play each game. The twist about this game is that all the mini games are, more or less secretly, connected to each others, meaning the actions in one game may unlock something in another game, until you unlock the way to get to the end.
I tried to give the game a very retro/arcade look in the mini games. Most of the look comes from the pixelate post process shader that is applied to every arcade machine screen.
The game scored very well in theme, but was way too hard for most people. I figured that a retro game would have to be at least challenging, it goes with the theme. This was a misstake, as the game was more interesting by its originality, puzzle aspect and story elements than the actual gameplay of the mini games. So the high difficulty ended up being frustrating for players, and took away from the overall experience.
